Woman wakes to find male intruder standing over her

Police are investigating after a woman woke to find a man in her home this morning. The woman was asleep on her sofa and woke in the early hours to find him standing over her.

The 49 year old from Bispham road in Nelson shouted at him to leave before he ran off. When police officers arrived, he was seen heading in the direction of Ada Street but managed to escape.

The man is thought to have got in to the address through an insecure ground floor window. This follows a similar incident at a house on Hawthorne Grove, Barrowford on Saturday, July 23rd.

The man who was found in the Nelson house is described as Asian, aged in his 20s to early 30s and of slim build. Police are appealing for witnesses.
This was an understandably a worrying ordeal for the woman who had simply fallen asleep on her settee.

“We don’t know what this man’s reason for being in the house was as he didn’t speak to her or take anything. Thankfully he left when the woman shouted at him to leave.

“I would like to reassure local residents that we have stepped up patrols in the area and are working to find this man.
