Four US marines killed by rampaging gunman who intentionally targeted military personal. First firing at an army recruitment centre before driving to a US Navy reserves base some miles away and opening fire. Killing 4 innocent servicemen and injuring a policeman..
The feds say they are investigating the attack as domestic terrorism. Why was the gunman an animal rights activist ? KKK ? CND? With a name like Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez is his motive going to be anything other than Islam, nope!! So ‘domestic’ terrorism should really say Islamic terrorism as thats what it is.
CHATTANOOGA — Four Marines were killed by a gunman who went on a rampage at two U.S. military centers in Tennessee on Thursday, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke said. The gunman died at the scene and one police officer was injured.
“This is a nightmare for the city of the Chattanooga,” said Berke.
The police officer was hit in the ankle and was in stable condition. Two other people were wounded in the assault.
“We’ve had a tragedy unfold in Chattanooga today,” said Gov. Bill Haslam. “I know Tennesseans join me in being sickened and saddened.”
Federal authorities said they were investigating the case as possible incident of domestic terrorism.
The gunman, described by witnesses as a white male driving a silver Mustangconvertible, first opened fire at an Armed Forces Career Center at a strip mall. Witnesses heard a “pop pop” of gunfire and saw a gunman speeding off in the sports car. Police later found numerous shell casings in the parking lot.
The shooter then drove to the U.S. Naval Reserve Center on Amnicola Highway, about six miles southeast, where he fired into the offices, killing the four Marines and injuring the police officer.
CNN and NBC are citing sources and identifying Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez as the suspect in Thursday’s shootings in Chattanooga, Tenn., that left four Marines dead. USA TODAY cannot independently verify the name of the suspected shooter.
WRCB-TV reports that Abdulazeez was a naturalized U.S. citizen from Kuwait.
Residents of Colonial Shores, a quiet, shaded neighborhood in Hixson, Tenn., where the suspect is believed to have lived were prevented from returning to their homes Thursday afternoon by an armed guard. The housing area is about seven miles from the Naval Reserve Center.
The Navy confirmed that four U.S. Marines were killed in the incident, but withheld the names pending notification of next of kin.
The Navy said its Operational Support Center, where the fatal shootings occurred, is used to provide training and readiness support for reserves.
“Today, the Navy and Marine Corps team collectively mourn the loss of four heroes,” said Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus. “The tragedy in Chattanooga is both devastating and senseless.”
Chattanooga police chief Fred Fletcher said the gunman “brutally and brazenly attacked” members of the military and police.
Authorities refused to disclose whether the gunman was killed by officers or shot himself.
Officials said the entire incident began around 10:45 a.m. and was over within 30 minutes.
Gale Mule, a witness, told CNN that a shooter drove up to Navy offices and began “firing into the building.” Local media said the shooter was firing a high-powered rifle.
Within hours, Chattanooga police said the incident was no longer an active shooter situation.
Chattanooga State’s campus nearby was locked down as a safety precaution, the school said on its website.
