TWO men in Luton have been assaulted after going to the aid of a group of women who were being harassed.

The incident happened in Brantwood Park on Sunday (May 18) at approximately 8pm when the victims, both in their early 20s, went to help a group of women who were being disturbed by a group of men.

The group, described as Asian and black men, left the scene for a short time before returning and assaulting the pair.

Detective Constable Helen Toms said: “The victims are now recovering from serious bruising and cuts to their bodies suffered during the assault.

“I would like to urge the group of women who were involved in the initial disturbance to contact the police.

“We know that during the assault the offenders have shouted loudly at the victims.

“It is possible that other members of the public overheard this commotion and may have information that could help identify those responsible for this offence so I would also encourage these people to speak with officers.”

Anyone with information relating to this crime can contact DC Toms, in confidence, at Luton Police Station, on 01582 394350, or Bedfordshire Police on 101, or text information to 07786 200011.

Alternatively contact the independent crime fighting charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
